The Hattiesburg High School Baseball Program has a rich tradition. This tradition continues under the leadership of coach Joe Hartfield and long-time assistant coach Brent Barham, as the baseball team won the 2018 7-5A State Championship.
In addition, the baseball program is excited about the additions of assistant coaches Jason Harr, Lance Hendrix, Glenn Mitchell, and Zac Craven.
The coaching staff will continue to strive to instill a hard-work ethic, accountability, perseverance, and many other core values in each player. Hattiesburg baseball players are expected to represent the school and community in a positive manner both on and off the field. In addition, the coaching staff believes the game of baseball is a great tool for preparing players for life after high school.
The HHS Baseball Program is coming off of a stellar 2018 campaign in which the Tigers won the 7-5A State Championship. It was the program’s 7th state championship overall.
Now, the Tigers must replace 8 starters; including, Kameron Wells (Miami-Dade College), Dexter Jordan (PRCC), A.J. Stinson (Alabama State University), and Joseph Gray Jr. (Milwaukee Brewers-60thpick). Other seniors included; Jay Reedy, Brandon Knox, Jaden Richardson, and Letrelle Johnson.
Coach Hartfield is very excited about the “blue collar” players returning, a hardworking coaching staff, and is convinced they will work hard to uphold the traditions of the Tiger program, while making every effort to win the program’s 7thstate title.
With only 4 seniors returning (Landon Rascoe-P/1B, Jarius Mcfarland-Utility, Jeramiah Nunez-P/DH, and Keylan McKeller-INF), the Tigers will have to depend on underclassmen as they continue to strive for excellence.
Also returning is the Tiger’s starting shortstop, Caleb Tart. Other players returning that saw quality playing time; include, Jerry Burkett (P/1B), Adrian Felts (3B/P), Cameron Lott (C), and Kadarius Hicks (2B/OF).
Joe Hartfield is entering his 13thyear as head coach of the Hattiesburg Tigers. Longtime assistant Coach, Brent Barham, and Coach Ray Pickering are also returning. With the move of Coach Eddie Easley to Meridian High School and the retirement of Coach John Lindsey, the Tigers add Coaches Jason Harr and Lance Hendrix to the high school staff.
